Movie Review (Synopsis)

Confessions of a Shopaholic (Film)

This movie review is based on the Confessions of a Shopaholic Film. The main character in this movie is  Rebecca Bloomwood, starring by  (Isla Fisher) who is shopping addicted and she lives with her best friend, Suze who is starring by (Krysten Ritter). She works as a journalist for a gardening magazines but she has a dream to join the fashion magazine that is Alette. On the way to an interview with Alette's Company, she buys a green scarf. Her credit card is declined, so Rebecca goes to a hot dog stand and offers to buy all the hot dogs with a check, if the seller gives her back change in cash, saying the scarf is to be a gift for her sick aunt. But, then the hot dog vendor refuses to agree with her and at last a man offers her with $20 note since he is feel compassion enough with the Rebecca's aunt condition. Unfortunately, when Rebecca arrives at the interview, she is told that the position has been filled. In turn, she is feel really disappointed.  This is due to her behavior that is she cannot control with her lust and desired, in order to pursuit with her happiness even though at last her behavior will ruin his career and future as well.

However, the receptionist tells her there is an open position with the magazine Successful Saving, explaining how getting a job at Successful Savings could eventually lead to a position at Alette magazine company. Rebecca interviews with Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy), the editor of Successful Savings and the man who just gave her the $20. She hides her scarf outside his offices, but Luke's assistant comes into the office and gives it back to her. Finally, Rebecca knows that the game is up and over and she decided to leave the office .

That evening, she was drunk and her friend, Suze writers a letter to Alette and Successful Companies, but she mails each to the wrong magazines. Luke likes the letter she meant to send to Alette Company and hires her. Rather than completing a work assignment for a new column, Rebecca goes to a clothing sale. While inspecting a pair of cashmere gloves she has just purchased, she realizes it is not 100% cashmere and she has been duped. This gives her an idea for the column, which she writes under the name " The Girl in the Green Scarf" and is an instant success.

Then, Rebecca later returns home to renewed the confrontations with her debt collector, so Suze makes her attend Shopaholics Anonymous. The group leader is Miss Korch starring by Wendie Malick, forces Rebecca to donate all the clothes that she just bought, including a bridesmaid's dress for Suze's wedding and      a dress for a Television interview. After the meeting Rebecca cannot affordable enough to buy back both and buys back the interview dress. During the interview sessions, Rebecca is accused of not paying her debts and at last she loses her job. Suze totally get mad with her when she finds out that Rebecca lost the bridesmaid dress. The Alette Company had offered Rebecca a position at the magazines, but Rebecca declines to accept that offer. After that, she had decided to sell most of her clothes to pay back her debts, including the green scarf as well.  Meanwhile, Luke starts a new company, that is Brandon Communications.

In turn, her decision to sell the most of her clothes seems attains her goal since she is able to pay back her debts. Rebecca attends Suze's wedding after she had reclaiming her bridesmaid dress, and finally she forgives her. Rebecca and Luke reunite, and Luke returns the green scarf after revealing that the person who  bought it at an auction was acting as his agent. Rebecca becomes romantically involved with Luke and starts her new life by working at his new company. The main intention Luke did that thing towards Rebecca was  to change her behavior which was to obsess to purchase the items that she was not needed at all.

In my opinion, personally I think that, she was behaved like that since as for her, being as a shopaholic  is the key of her in order to pursuit with her happiness event though she realizes that it will lead her life attain the disasters than triumphs. There is nothing wrong to buy the items  that she is craving for but, at least she knows how to control and manages her cash flow as well.

The Left and Right Brain Functioning

The Left and Right Brain Functioning

Basically, each of the hemisphere of the brain functions like two different personalities with their own way of processing the information. The left brain thinks methodically and likes to organize and categorize the information from the environment. In turn, it connects the new information with the old one, making sense of our world as well.

This is totally contrasts with the right brain which "thinks" holistically in pictures. The right learns kinesthetically through the body and functions with the present. It is the right brain that is responsible in counseling for bringing in our awareness to the present.

The Right Brain Functioning

You have probably had a "moment" in your life. You know, a moment of awareness, of being totally in the here and now. Well, you were in your right brain. Our present moments are right brain based. That is because all our sensory information comes through the right brain.

Basically, the right brain gives us the sense of being connected to one another. It is called the relational right brain for a good and solid reason.Based on a Positron Emission Tomography ( PET) scans and neuroimaging technology, we have learned that the right brain regulates or influences many aspects of our behavior. And, it is often those aspects that we are trying to change through psychotherapy.

Those things often have to do with our relations and connections with others, for instances Self-awareness, Empathy, Identification with others, Trust, Emotion, Non conscious communication, Attachment and Recognition  of emotional faces.

One more things, the other right brain functioning includes visuo-spatial recognition (imagery), autobiographical memory, stress modulation and holistic thinking. The right side of the brain also has an integrative map of the body.

The Left Brain Functioning

The left brain "thinks" in language. It is that "calculating intelligence" that tells us not to forget to pock up milk on the way home from work.

You have probably seen a human brain, that two sided grey mass with the deep groves cut into it. The two sides or hemispheres each has separate ways of organizing our experiences of the world, simplistically speaking, the left brain deals with thinking  while the right brain processes the emotions.

In summary, we use the "left brain" to reference the fact that the left hemisphere is the physical location of our capacity for logical thinking, abstract analysis and verbal dexterity.

In short, the left brain specializes in processing the information in a conscious, specific and linear way, while the right brain specializes in unconscious, global and holistic processing. In turn, we could say that the left brain sees the trees, while the right brain takes in the whole forest.

"Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic." Frank Herbert

Dr. LaCombe (aka "Dr. Shrinklady") has been showing people how to make deep emotional changes since 2006. She believes that the solution to our personal discontents is not found in thoughts alone but must include the balanced integration of mind, body and spirit. She created MyShrink.com as a safe harbour where you can learn how brain science can be used to enhance every aspect of your life.

How Well Do You Know Your Mind?

The Power of the Mind

Basically The Mind is like an iceberg. We are really only aware of a small part of the mind, the Conscious Mind, because that is what we see, use and interact with on a deliberate level. It is like the portion of the iceberg that is above the surface. Our conscious mind controls our analytical, judgemental and critical thinking as well as our short term memory and will power. However, the biggest part of our mind, more than 80% of our total psychological processes and the bulk of who we actually consider ourselves to be is embodied in our Subconscious Mind.

Our fears, habits, emotions, our automatic body functions such as the heart beating, our breathing, walking, talking and nearly everything else we do automatically is controlled by the Subconscious Mind. Our long term memories and our creative faculties are both subconsciously stored, controlled and accessed when the need arises. Everyone has the natural ability to tap into their Subconscious Mind, the 80% of their psychological process that hide below the surface, so as to create the positive changes they are looking for in their lives.

Identification with the Conscious Mind

Identification with your mind is really just an attachment to what constitutes the Conscious Mind. Attachment to the mind, the thought processes we think of as ourselves, creates an opaque screen of concepts, labels, images, words, judgements and definitions that blocks all true unadulterated experience of the world we live in. We constantly view the world through a filter of learned and interpreted beliefs that impacts on our perception of the world. This perception of the world is influenced by our upbringing and our beliefs, which in turn influences how our minds interact with the world. Two different people may believe different things about the same object or situation, both believing their view to be true, and both people, are equally justified in their views of the world the hold, neither being right or wrong about their perception.

The mind is a tool of the body. What most people do not realise is that the mind is actually subservient to the higher self, but is very hard to switch off. The mind is responsible for all the Self Talk we are subjected to from all the daily input it receives. The mind uses any input given it from the world as fuel for its activities be it mews media, physical activity, quiet self contemplation or the affections and attentions from a loved one,the mind uses all our experiences and input as fuel for its activity. When we provide it with fuel that doesn’t further our purpose, goals, desires or other activities in the world, then its activities can have a negative effect on our disposition and view of the world. If we provide it with positive joyful experiences then it will focus on positive activities.

The Minds True Place in the Scheme of Things

How do we control the mind? Stop thinking, or try to think of positive things? Not being able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction, but we don’t realize this because almost everybody is suffering from it, so it is considered normal (Tolle, Power of Now, 2008, p.14).

The mind and the activity of the conscious mind are actually a lower level function of the body. The body is easily able to survive without the activity of the conscious mind (disregarding the need for sustenance) as all the bodies important functions, respiration, cardiac activity, digestion, immune responses etc, are carried out autonomically (subconsciously) and without active input from your conscious mind.

Separation from the mind, the ability to observe the mind detached from its activities, according to Eckhart Tolle, is one of the objectives of enlightenment and is the primary way we will all experience true peace (of or from the mind). Self Development assists in this process of self reflection and analysis in order to help us gain better control over our thoughts, desires and feelings. Exercising control over these areas of our psyche also allow us greater freedom and focus when we are required to make choices and decisions about our life path, our objectives in relation to goal setting and desires, and also assists us in working towards our objectives in many ways.

How to Control the Mind

There are many things we can do to separate ourselves from the incessant mental noise or what is known as the compulsive thinker, which prevents people from finding that realm of inner stillness. The best technique for salvation from the effects of incessant thinking is meditation and breathing exercises, where we can find true peace and satisfaction from the day to day issues that most people face.

Eckhart Tolle refers to this state of inner stillness as just being or living in the now in the truest sense, and it is this state that is pursued by Buddhist monks, Yogis’, and millions of people fed up with the information saturation the modern world has immersed us in.

He says that the Power of Now is not in the time of now, but it is the place that Now is experienced. This place of Now poses several problems for the mind. Because the mind can only use your experiences as the basis of its fuel, the minds value to someone ‘living in the moment’ is greatly diminished.

All in all, as a human being we should master in our own mind in order to get survive in this world , in turn to attain our goals as a whole. Just keep it up and enjoy your life, therefore the degree of  positive joyful experiences will be in your hand as well.

What is mean by Antisemitism? Basically, the word Antisemitism means the prejudice against or hatred of  Jews. The Holocaust, the state-sponsored persecution and murder of European Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborates between 1933 and 1945, is history's most extreme example of antisemitism. In 1879, German journalist Wilhelm Marr originated the term antisemitism, denoting the hatred of Jews, and also hatred of various   liberal, cosmopolitan, and international political trends of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries often associated with Jews. The trends under attack included the equal civil rights, constitutional democracy, free trade, socialism, finance capitalism , and pacifism.

The specific hatred of Jews, however, preceded the modern era and the coining of the term antisemitism. Among the most common manifestations of antisemitism throughout history were pogroms, violent riots launched against Jews and frequently encouraged by the government authorities. The pogroms were often incited by blood libels which is the wrong rumors that Jews used the blood of Christian children for the ritual purposes.

In the modern era, antisemitism added a political dimension to their ideology of hatred. In the last third of
the nineteenth century, antisemitic political parties were formed in Germany, France, and Austria as well.  The publications such as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion generated or provided the full support for fraudulent theories of an international Jewish conspiracy. A potent component of political antisemitism was nationalism, whose adherents often falsely denounced Jews as disloyal citizens as a whole.

The nineteenth century xenophobic " voelkisch  movement" or ( folk or people's movement) was made up of German philosophers, scholars, and artists who viewed the Jewish spirit as alien to Germandom the shaped a notion of the Jew as " non German". " The theorists of racial anthropology was provided the pseudoscientific backing for this idea. The Nazi party, founded in 1919 and led by Adolf Hitler, gave the political expression to theories of racism. In part, the Nazi party gained the popularity by disseminating anti-Jewish propaganda. The Millions of citizens out there bought Hitler's book that is Mein Kampf ( My Struggle or My Battle ), which called for the removal of Jews from Germany.

With the Nazi rise to power in 1933, the party ordered the anti-Jewish economic boycotts, staged book burning, and enacted discriminatory anti-Jewish legislation. In 1935, the Nuremberg Laws racially defined Jews by " blood" and ordered the total separation of so-called "Aryans" and " non-Aryans", thereby legalizing a racist hierarchy. On the night of November 9, 1938, the Nazis destroyed synagogues and the shop windows of Jewish-owned stores throughout Germany and Austria. But right now this event also known as the Kristallnacht pogrom or Night of Broken Glass. This event marked a transition to an era of destruction, in which genocide would become the singular focus on Nazi antisemitism.

The Death of Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was committed suicide by gunshot on 30 April 1945 in his Fuhrerbunker in Berlin while his wife Eva, was committed suicide with him by ingesting cyanide.

That afternoon, in accordance with Hitler's prior instructions, their remains were carried up the stairs through the bunker's emergency exit, doused in petrol and set alight in the Reich Chancellery garden outside the bunker. The Soviet archives record that their burnt remains were recovered and interred in successive locations until 1970 when they were again exhumed, cremated and the ashes scattered.

Accounts differ as to the cause of death, one that he died by poison only and another that he died by a self-inflicted gunshot, while biting down on a cyanide capsule. The contemporary historians have rejected these accounts as being either Soviet propaganda or an attempted compromise in order to reconcile the different conclusions. One eye-witness recorded that the body showed signs of having been shot through the mouth, but this has been proven unlikely. There is also controversy regarding the authenticity of skull and jaw fragments which were recovered.

In turn, the death of Adolf Hitler had become controversy since there is no solid evidence to prove the way how he ends his life as well. But, his death had become the new lease of life since the West Germany was free from the rule of Hitler. Maybe for the West Germany people the death of  Hitler is the source of happiness for them as well.

The degree of happiness II

The family is a haven in a heartless world.  ~Attributed to Christopher Lasch

Happiness is a subjective feeling that everyone might have. The degree of happiness of each person is totally differing from one and others.  But as for me, my happiness is when I can make my families members  felt happy with me.

So as a student, I always trying my best to attain my goal for each semester. It does not matter how much I will get by the end of each semester, at least I had try my best to attain it.  My families are everything for me. Whatever I want to do in my life I will ask their's opinion first. Since I know that, they absolutely want the best in my life.

When I  am deep of depression and in trouble I will call my families members  in order to some advice from them. They will give me the best advice and show their affections. In turn, it will make our families bond more stronger and closer.

Everything that I do in my life of course for my families as well especially both of my parents. They are the solid reasons why I study hard. I want to repay all their sacrifices. That is all that I can do right now.

After I finished my diploma level I will pursuit  my study in degree level since I want to full fill my parents desire. I never blame on them since I know they want the best in my life. Nowadays, as we know that, the higher the education background level we have, it will act as yardstick for me in order to find the best and secure job in the future.

All in all, I love my families members very much. I will try my best to make my families members felt happy since they are source of my happiness too.
